How are multimodal intelligence leadership capabilities relevant for you as a leader?
Multimodal intelligence is particularly important to me because my engineering background naturally trained me to rely heavily on analytical thinking. CityLab has reinforced that technical intelligence is only one component of effective leadership. Complex environments also require emotional intelligence, empathy, ethical judgment, self-awareness, adaptability, collaboration, resilience, and the ability to understand perspectives that may be very different from my own.
The CityLab idea of becoming my “best self” also connects strongly with my Moral Compass and the Carey Business Credo. Leadership requires more than having authority or making technically correct decisions. It requires being worthy of the trust that other people place in me.
For my own leadership development, this means continuing to strengthen how I listen, communicate, build relationships, navigate uncertainty, and respond when people disagree. It also means recognizing when I need to slow down my own analytical problem-solving and first understand the experiences of the people affected by a decision. My goal is to combine the discipline of an engineer with the empathy, judgment, adaptability, and self-awareness required of a conscientious leader. Digging deep into myself, I wish to develop better listening and communicating skills.
